Job Title: Sybase DBA
Job Type: Long-Term Contract (3+ years)

Salary: $40-$70/hr
Description:
Database integrity
Scheduled Maintenance
- Schedule backups.
- Perform backup and recovery operations.
- Perform database consistency checks.
Troubleshooting
- Respond to and solve server/database problems.
- Establish contact with Sybase technical support when necessary.
- Follow-up on problem resolution.
- Resolve data questions and problems.
Performance and Tuning
- Gather information to evaluate system performance, response time, and throughput.
- Maintain historical log of modifications and performance enhancements for comparison purposes.
Configuration Management
- Manage system resources.
- Collect and maintain information on system usage, growth, and error management.
- Compile statistics to manage growth and usage.
Business resumption
- Test, and maintain business resumption plan.
- Implement the plan.
- Regularly test the plan.
Error management
- Monitor server error logs and database verification procedures.
- Respond to outstanding problems.
Change Management
Migrations of application database versions by division.
- Coordinate database changes.
- Maintain database change request schedule.
- Update database model and dictionary.
- Create and test database migration scripts.
- Schedule and execute database migrations.
Synchronization to ensure integrity of all databases.
- Create and maintain databases for development, system integration testing, user acceptance testing, training and production.
Database modifications
- Create and document new design modifications.
- Monitor modifications for builds.
Documentation of database changes
- Create and maintain procedures to document and track database change requests
Security
- Ensure server/database security.
- Maintain user access, password encryption, and system security.
Support Software Changes
- Test and implement new releases of database support software, such as UNIX Releases, Sybase, support tools, MQ Series, etc.
Required Skills:
- Relational database design skills.
- Working knowledge of Sybase ASE and SQL Anywhere.
- Working knowledge of the following database support tools: SQLBackTrack, DBArtisan, SQL Builder, HipLink, MQSeries, and others.
- Adept at writing SQL, stored procedures and triggers.
